🌐Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)

Will Provide Full Support to Industries in Their Decarbonization Process

The EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism will require importers to purchase certificates equivalent to the carbon price if their goods do not comply with the EU's carbon pricing rules.

The Regulation, approved in May 2023, establishes a transition phase before full implementation in January 2026.

During this phase, importers must report the greenhouse gas emissions associated with their imports. Once fully implemented, importers will be required to annually declare the amount of goods imported and surrender the corresponding CBAM certificates.

Initially, the mechanism will apply to carbon-intensive products, with the potential for its scope to be expanded. The Regulation excludes certain countries and territories, but there is provision for adding or removing countries from this list based on specific criteria.
